Taking Back Control

There can be no illusions, this season, FA Cup win or not has raised some serious question marks as to the ‘progress’ Liverpool Football Club is making. The league form alone is enough to raise serious alarm bells ringing within FSG, the Carling Cup victory could so very easily have been defeat. And there are many concerns regarding new players we have brought in not being up to scratch.

I have a more serious concern though. Henry and Werner having already gotten rid of ‘their man’ in Damien Comolli have to make their next decisions regarding the business side of Liverpool Football Club impeccable.

A top guy needs to be brought in OR perhaps moved up stairs into the DOF role, Kenny may step aside, my personal belief is that he will move upstairs possibly citing health issues or un-required pressure at his age, just my opinion. Therefore a top manager will have to be secured. So a replacement DOF and possible replacement manager are two would be essentials FSG will need putting in place, BUT and here is the point I want to put out to my fellow Reds...what is just as important or even more so maybe, is that Liverpool FC need to get rid of a ‘whippin boy’ stigma we seem to now possess in the transfer market.
I am going to be brutal here, for the last 3-4 seasons we have been fucking awful conducting transfer dealings both in and out of this club, I believe we are now seen to be mugs when buying and soft touches when selling. Some Facts (as Rafa would have put it…)

Xabi Alonso – This deal still winds me up to this day but this is more the way in which he was ‘pushed out’, yes the fee paid from Real Madrid was close to 30 million, a good chunk of money, but I would say a low end figure in today’s ultra wealthy football climate for a unique player. A player who orchestrates tempo and play with such grace and ease that he was and is still the player I love watching most in European football, his style of play could not be bought elsewhere in European club football, Real Madrid realised he was a unique talent and wanted him, we could have raised this fee I am sure. Alonso is a difficult start, some would argue the fee was fair, I would argue with that.

Mascherano – We not only gave this guy his footballing resurrection from the despair he found at West Ham, we also helped turn him into a monster, the finest example you could see playing the midfield destroyer role. He had established himself as if not the best; one of the elite in this role in world football. We bought him for 18.6 when he was in awful form and hardly playing, Rafa knew his qualities. We sold him after he had turned into this beast of a combatant midfielder to Barca for 22 Million…Are you fucking kidding me here, LFC turned him into one of the best in the business and we got 3 Million more than what we paid for him! ! !

Arbeloa – We picked this guy up for a bargain 4 Mil or thereabouts, fair enough. He had strong attributes and he became our regular RB for 2 seasons. Starting 11 player for Liverpool Football Club our RB we then sell him to Real Madrid for 5 Mil or just under, Arbeloa remains Real Madrids starting RB….well if he is good enough for us (which he was) and he is good enough for Real Madrid (which he is) why did we let him go for so little….again this shows to me complete incompetence and business savvy – it gets worse! !

Torres / Meireles I am going to group these both together, I am not bringing up transfer fee’s here, but what I will say about the way this was handled is this. Did we have to sell 2 starting 11 players on the last knockings of transfer windows? NO we didn’t have to, for Christ’s sake... the only thing this did was force us to kneejerk sign Carroll and leave us totally short of a running box to box midfielder, completely ludicrous. Ok sell them, but sell them on our terms, to our timescales, when we want, when we have the correct replacements lined up and ready to sign for prices we want to conduct business at! Laughable, Torres quit moaning you have a contract with LFC shut up and play, we decide when we sell you, you big girl.
Raul shut up and play some football; I have this contract here that says you are a LFC player until the time WE decide you are not a LFC player.

Aquilani Loan Sagas – Hands up who wants an Italian international for 5 Million??? Any takers..Juventus, do you want a season out of him?? We will pay 70% of his wages, we have no need for a creative midfield player we are spoilt for choice, well, we have Gerrard who is getting old but he will play 35+ games for us this year – no doubt! What’s that Juventus, you have had a season out of him but can now get Pirlo on a free and don’t want Aqua! Ohhh dear never mind.
Any takers for an Italian international, over all fitness issues, strong season for Juventus under his belt, we will pay 65% of his salary, we don’t need a creative player because we have signed Adam for 7 Million…anyone??? Milan woo hoo Here you go, Italian international, creative MF and here is most of his wages for the year…but you MUST buy him if he plays 25 games for you.
Tell you something Aquilani has played some good stuff this year, a lovely player to watch in a strong(ish) Milan side. Now they stop playing him because they don’t want to stump up the 5 Mil after all, they now have other Irons in the fire which they believe fit their purpose better….Fair play to them, how slow are our people doing these negotiations here, pathetic, Alberto come home, lets see what happens next. Maybe will finally give a chance to a player who has over the last 2-3 seasons racked up 100 odd games in Serie A and the Italian National side, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on this. He will most likely be loaned out again and LFC will have to pull their pants up once again after the negation period for Alberto.

Hmmm – Signings I won’t go into too much detail here, we all know the facts:-

Poulson 5 Million – But loan out Aquilani with option to buy for 5 Million WTF! ! !

Carroll 35 Million
Downing 20 Million
Henderson 16-20 Million
= 75 Million spent (WTF is wrong with LFC, who is green lighting these calls?)

This needs putting to bed right now, I think we are seen as a joke with our business dealings, I think we look stupid not only in England but now the rest of Europe; we are a soft touch, a laughing stock. Henry, Werner the whole FSG need to straighten this shambles up right now! This is a matter of serious concern, no question.
